Looking to exercise your competitive edge or fancy a team based kayak session?

Do you want to hone your kayaking skills over the winter, well it's all thrills and spills on Monday nights at the Priory Pool in Shrewsbury Quarry Leisure Centre for Canoe Polo! Think Netball meets Rubgy on (and under!) water!

All aspects of your paddling will be tested and improved, power, balance, paddle control, turns, support strokes, and you get lots of motivation to learn your roll! Most of all it's team based fun and excellent cardio!

All welcome including recent beginners – as long as you’d like to paddle hard & get wet! All polo specific kit available at the pool. Just bring your enthusiasm, swimming kit, plus a short sleeve top and wet shoes.

Arrive 7.30pm to be on the water between 8 and 9pm, book on via the 'Wild Apricot for Members app' for each session.

POOL SESSION AT THE QUARRY POOL

Winter 2026/27 pool sessions - come and book onto a series of pool sessions to hone and refine your paddle skills in a safe, warm environment. Master your paddle technique, your bracing, or get that roll completely solid.

Club coaches will be on hand to support and assist. These sessions are especially good for paddlers starting out on their paddling careers, or for those wishing to master a specific skill set. They are less suited to experienced paddlers (you may be interested in the polo sessions instead when they start...).

Pool sessions are in blocks of 4 and for one hour slots. Please arrive at the pool at least 15 minutes early to get ready.

We have boats at the pool for use. The session is not suitable for SUPs. You can bring your own boat but it must be spotless clean inside and out, and will be inspected by a coach prior to put in. If not clean enough we will need to ask you to use a club boat.

A maximum of 2 sea boats can be used on the pool, and only on the 8pm session. You would need to bring your own. Please contact Steve on secretary@shrewsburycanoeclub.org if you intend on using a Sea Boat to check there is space to do so.

Please bring swim wear, and we strongly recommend goggles and nose clips.

The price for the four week block is £40 - this is non-refundable unless the Club needs to cancel a session for any reason. If you can't make a session then you are welcome to make this known through the Facebook site where often other members will take you up on the offer. You'll need to make payment arrangements with the other party directly in this circumstance independently.

In the event an evening is not sold out then one week bookings may be made available at a higher cost of £15 per session.

Forward Paddling Technique Day - Frankwell (18 Oct 2026)

SCC Racing Lead - James Block and SCC Club Coach Nick Redshaw are teaming up with Spring Valley Kayak School (South Wales) Coach Jim Pigdon to host a Forward Paddling Technique Day at Frankwell for SCC Members.

Between these three coaches they have an enormous amount of knowledge about kayaking and forward paddling to pass on.

This day is aimed at kayakers (age 11 upwards) wishing to improve their forward paddling technique and efficiency.

It is likely the day will be split into two halves - the morning being based in the Pavillion for theory on efficient forward paddling and a chance to practice techniques on dry land using Jim's Slider, Ergo and Balance Board designed for kayakers.

In the afternoon we hope to take these techniques onto the river so please bring paddling gear and a warm change of clothes.

Please meet at the Frankwell Cricket Pavillion at 9:30am ready for a 10am start. We anticipate the day will finish around 4-4:30pm.

There is a small charge for this event to cover the Pavillion Hire Fee.

Please bring snacks and lunch. Tea and Coffee will be available at the Pavilion.

Boats are available to hire from the club - please book these and pay the hire fee via the website prior to the event.

Please book on early to avoid disappointment as places are limited due to limited space in the Pavillion (if the weather is good we may be able to open up this opportunity to more club members) .

Please add yourself to the waiting list if interested in case of any last minute cancellations and this also gives us an idea of how popular such an event is and whether plans for another event like this should be made.

Yorkshire week long canoe paddling (26 Mar 2027)

Our proposed trip is a week long canoe trip in Yorkshire, limited spaces as im the only attending canoe coach. We will be staying in an Airbnb and enjoy paddling some of the famous Yorkshire waters for a long week.

Any info needed give me a ring or email me. We will probably paddle the touring rivers so thinking grade 1-2, 2-3 and 3. This trip will be for traditional canoe, tandem or single.

Target rivers for this trip im looking at the Tees, Ouse, and possibly the Swale.

This trip will be good for people that have paddled white water before. All driving attendees may be required to assist with shuttling and any portaging so expect instruction and have plenty of fuel in reserve.

Kit required for this trip, you will need to bring; hemet, boat + paddle, spare paddle, Ba, painters, swim lines, personal first aid kit, drybags, dry suit or cag and dry trousers.
If you have pin kit and/or group shelters please bring these with you, these will be most useful.

I would suggest to insure your kit should any losses occur, as a possible rescue will prioritise you over any kit. Any losses will be dealt with after you are safe.

Please bring some non kayaking gear for the occasional meal out, expected to share rooms so bring pyjamas too.
