The Tyne Tour. November 4
th
to November 6
th
.
Normally an annual event, the Tyne Tour was cancelled due to COVID in 2020 and 2021.
It’s back again for 2022 and as in past years Daveb is running a club trip to the Tour.
If you are coming register on the Shrewsbury canoe club site in the usual way so that I know who/how many are coming and who is looking for a lift for themselves and a boat.
You must also book your place on the Tour and pay the Tour fee
via the tour website which is TyneTour.co.uk
Last year the club went to the Tyne even though the tour was cancelled and used bunkhouse accommodation at green carts farm. This year as usual the tour includes the opportunity to camp on Tyne Green in Hexham right beside the river and that is where I shall be staying.
Exactly what we paddle will depend on river levels, the size and ability of our group(s) and on which of the club coaches/leaders come.
I shall set off from Shropshire early enough on Friday morning to get a paddle in on the way to the Tyne.
This is likely to be a section of the Lune, Kent or Eden. Saturday will be spent paddling part or all of the north Tyne from Bellingham down to Hexham with the evening taken up by the bonfire and fireworks display in Hexham and the Tour Ceilidh on Tyne Green for those who want them.
Sunday will be spent on a river in the Eden/ eastern lakes/Lune area and the drive home.
You must be competent at grade 2(3) or above on the Friday and Sunday (or possibly grade 4 for those who are up to it). Expect grade 2 on the Saturday (and short sections of grade 3(4) if warden gorge is paddled.)
Whether paddles will be club or peer activities will depend on which of the coaches/ leaders come on the weekend.
If you are not prepared to camp in early November it is up to you to organise your own bunkhouse or youth hostel accommodation near to Hexham
and to be at the agreed rendezvous at the agreed time!
Kit list: full camping gear, boat paddle airbags deck helmet, full winter paddling costume and footwear, spare clothes.
In addition, if you have them: throwline, rescue sling, first aid, group shelter, split paddles.
