Summer Monday Evenings Grand Finale - 12th September - Frankwell to Uffington
UPDATE -
We must be on the water and paddling downstream together by 17.45 to ensure we make the pub before dark.
If you need assistance with the shuttle, please meet at Corbet Arms in Uffington at 16.30 to sort out, leaving the pub by 16.45 to get to Frankwell. Nick will meet those who need shuttle assistance at the pub.
It is hoped to run the weir, so helmets are required for this trip which can be borrowed from the club.
After a really successful summer on the water on Monday evenings, we thought it would be great to finish with a social placid paddle from Frankwell down to Uffington on the final evening. We will get off the water at the Corbett Arms, and stop for a cheeky pint and packet of scratchings.
This is suitable for all craft, and anyone who has been paddling with us over the summer and can keep largely in a straight line, or at least pointing downstream. Any paddlers under 16 years old need to be accompanied by a paddling adult please.
Timings
It will be getting dark at 8pm, so we will be launching at 17:45 LATEST from Frankwell - we will not be able to wait for any late arrivals, sorry. Please try and be at Frankwell for 17.15 to get sorted.
Shuttle
You will need to organise your own shuttle in advance with fellow paddlers please, sorting yourselves a lift home from the pub. There will not be time to meet at Frankwell and then sort shuttles.
If you borrow a Club boat there is no need to sort getting your boat and kit back - we will have vans and the trailer there to do this, taking the kit to Andy's farm for dropping back to the Club at a later date.
If you are new to the Club and not sure about sorting the shuttle, please let us know and we will try to assist putting you in touch with fellow paddlers - ideally drop a car at the pub before grabbing a lift to Frankwell before 17.15.
Kit Requirements
You will need a boat, deck, paddle, BA, something warm to wear on the water (non-cotton), and a waterproof top (there may be some wet-sponge tag on the way down...). Noting it will be getting dark about the time we expect to get off the water, we would also like paddlers to bring a head torch - shouldn't be needed, but just in case.
Be sure to leave a change of clothes at the pub for when we get off. And some pocket money for that necessary swift half in the pub.
If the water level remains low, then there MAY be an opportunity to run the weir on the way down. If so, you will also require a HELMET. There will be the option to portage around the weir if necessary. We will make a decision on this on the day.
Closing
Hope to see you there for an enjoyable paddle, all crossed for a balmy September evening.
