A number of members have expressed an interest in attending a Paddle Sport Touring Leader course, and in time completing the relevant assessment to obtain the PSTL British Canoeing qualification.

This course has been organised by the Club with Dave Kohn-Hollins of River Flair.

This course qualification will suit anyone keen to lead or support trips involving different craft on sheltered water (lakes and placid rivers, etc). More information on the course and what you can expect can be found here:

This is the course being offered, and attendees will be supported by the club in getting experience prior to assessment, if looking to do so, later in 2023. The Club MAY choose to remit attendees for specific environments over the summer ahead of formal BC assessment as described in the Club's Remit Policy found here:

Note that prior to Club remit leading or assessment aspirant leaders must have completed the 16 hour first aid course (the Club is running one in the New Year - available on the website), the Safeguarding course (available online via UK Coaching) and DBS Check via coachingofficer@shrewsburycanoeclub.org

The cost of the course is £170 for the two days. The Club's reimbursement policy will apply, offering 50% subsidy on successful completion of the course to those willing to commit to leading trips moving forward. Applications should be made before the course date for committee consideration.

Noting the run up to Christmas, although the club has paid 50% deposit to secure the course, we are only asking for a £20 deposit to secure your place on the course. The remaining £150 will be invoiced in January. If you are offered the club reimbursement this will happen on completion of the course.

There are 6 places available for this course. If it is fully booked please add yourself to the waiting list, and we will try and add a further course, or ask Dave to increase numbers with an additional coach.

The course is open to book for 7 days by those who responded to the previous questionnaire on this - I will be emailing these people with a code to use this morning. All other bookings will open on 18 November.
