DaveB and Nick Morral are running the BC Paddlesport Safety and Rescue Training course beginning at 7p.m. on the evening of Friday 21st April via a Zoom meeting and then continuing at Frankwell on Saturday 22nd April from 9.15a.m. till 5p.m.

The PSRT course is a British Canoeing prescribed course which covers the fundamentals of safety and rescue in the sheltered water environment.  Participants choose what sort of boat they will use on the course: kayak, (general purpose, sea, sit-on top, racing) canoe or SUP and from your selected craft you will cover rescues and recoveries of all other types of craft,

The course is appropriate for anyone competent paddling in their chosen craft in the sheltered water environment .The following links give a good idea of the ground covered by the course.

Personal Equipment

You will spend a lot of the Saturday on or in the water giving or receiving rescues or assistance to other paddlers/swimmers.  Even if the air temperature is high the water will be pretty cool.  You should bring:

suitable clothing for spending time in the water,

wetsuit plus overtrousers and canoe cag or (better) a dry suit,

warm hat and gloves or pogies,

thermal layers

neoprene boots or oher suitable footwear

food and drink and a change of clothing,

any personal meds

and the following additional equipment if you have it:

Your own boat(s), buoyancy aid, helmet, paddle(s), rescue sling and karabiner, throw line, knife, tow line.

Do not feel you have to buy any of the additional equipment before the course since club kit will be available and part of the content is a look at the pros and cons of different designs etc.
