On Sunday 17th August we are doing an introduction to slalom kayaking at Stafford & Stone Canoe Club. The Slalom course is gentle flowing water Grade 1 with slalom gates set out to practice on. There may be other members of the public using the course at the same time as SCC.

Leaders will be Dave C and Anita & possibly others.

For those Shrewsbury CC members who already have experience of slalom this is also a chance for you to hone your skills ready for the remaining slalom races of the season!

Slalom skills are useful not only for those interested in competing in slalom but also for those wanting to improve their general boat control.

A plastic kayak is suitable for this day. If you need to use any kayaks or kit from the club please speak to Anita well in advance of the 17th to arrange collection from the container at Frankwell.

It is planned to stop for a lunch break during this day.

Peer Paddlers are welcome but please do still book on as a peer paddler.

Please pay for any kit via the SCC website.

At Stafford & Stone CC there are good facilities with a public car park right next to the slalom site, a play park, public toilets and an M&S Foodstore a close walk away.

The slalom site is on the River Trent - good handwashing prior to eating and drinking is strongly advised due to the possibility of poor water quality.

Kit needed: Personal paddling gear appropriate for the weather,  kayak, paddles, BA, spraydeck if using, air bags, crash helmets, lunch  / snack and plenty of fluids if hot, sun hat, sun cream.
