On Sunday 14th December there's the chance to have a go at White Water Raft Race Skills on the River Dee, paddling the raft from Horseshoe Falls to just below Town Falls. Parts of this section of the Dee includes grade 3 & 4 white water.
We will use a Raft loaned from British Rafting with the aim of encouraging participation in the British Raft Race Series events. See link below:
https://paddleuk.org.uk/white-water-rafting
Our safety kayaker is Matt and raft guide Anita.
Please note that spaces on the raft are limited to 4 so please book on early to avoid disappointment.
This opportunity can only take place if the river Dee is 0.65 or below on the Corwen Gauge and therefore may have to be postponed at short notice if the river rises above this.
Due to the Club's Raft Remit scope in order to book on you must have had either:
- Experience in a canoe / Kayak on grade 2 WW
- Previous experience of being guided as a crew member on a raft on grade 2-3 WW
- Experience of rafting on flat water or Mile End Mill or similar with Shrewsbury CC
- Experience of raft racing or raft race training.
- Must be fit enough to help carry the raft between 4-5 people.
Please note the minimum age for participation in this is 12.
Please meet at Horseshoe Falls Car park at 09:45 am to get changed and pump up the raft.
Drysuits or dry trousers good thick cag and thermal layers are essential due to the expected cold temperatures and water. Buoyancy Aids and Helmets are also required. Pogies are recommended.
We are able to borrow paddles for rafting from the club.
We aim not to flip the raft over but there is always a possibility of that happening! Please bring plenty of warm clothes to get changed into afterwards.
During this session you will begin to develop the skills needed for the Raft Race Personal Performance Award - see link for further details: https://paddlesuptraining.com/courses/river-raft-racing-award
