White Water Coaching

This session is aimed at four confident Grade 3 paddlers who want to step up their technical, tactical and psychological skills on the Upper T — specifically The Graveyard, NRA Bridge, and Chapel Falls.

On arrival you must register at the centre.

I’ll be coaching with a Performance Coach mindset: clear decision‑making, tactical understanding, line choice, risk awareness, and developing each paddler’s ability to operate with confidence in more complex Grade 3/4 environments. The focus is progression, not pressure — supporting you to paddle well, think well, and feel in control.

About Me- Nick

I’m a Senior Multi‑Discipline Coach (Slalom, WWR, Whitewater) with extensive experience coaching and leading in Grade 4–5 environments. I’ve raced at elite level, coached nationally for WCA/Paddle Cymru, and I’m currently progressing through the Performance Coach Pathway, using sessions like this to refine my higher‑level coaching behaviours: observation, intervention, decision‑making, and athlete development.

What You’ll Get Out of the Session

1. Technical progression — boat angle, edge control, speed management, breaking down features

2. Tactical understanding — reading water, choosing lines, adapting plans

3. Psychological support — confidence building, managing challenge, stepping up safely

4. Personal feedback — clear, individualised coaching to help you progress

5. Safe progression — structured, supportive development in a controlled environment

This session is perfect for paddlers who are comfortable on Grade 3 and want to explore Grade 3/4 features with strong support, clear coaching, and a focus on developing their own decision‑making.

Required kit of WW boat, air bags, paddle, spray deck, cag, helmet and buoyancy aid.

Please bring non-cotton clothes for paddling in, footwear for paddling in (essential), water proof jacket and warm change of clothes. Lunch and snacks also.

Paddlers should be happy paddling on the Dee, getting into and out of eddies and comfortable with a wet exit.
